Jan 15th / 1: Im taking this class because it satisfies my digital intensive gen ed requirement and because I as a history major am invested in how to apply my education in the digital sphere. 2: Digital history is the retention and display of physical history such as manuscripts and other physical historical entities in the digital realm for further study and to broaden the scope at which they can be viewed and interacted with, digital humanities is an interdisciplinary use of the digital space to create projects and data through taking from other humanities such as english or history to create a whole set or project. They are similar in the fact that they both use the digital space but digital humanities does not necessarily always have to come from the physical and can use other digital spheres to create a whole.
Jan 27: I have chosen Co Pilot as my Ai tool and asked it to “create a 2 page essay about frederick douglas” . Co Pilot created exactly what I asked for although the essay lacked any citations or real depth beyond surface level knowledge about Douglas mainly sticking to his abolitionist actions. The essay also had many short incomplete paragrpahs with minor tidbits and fun facts that could have been left out such as the fact Douglas was the recorder of deeds. I then asked it to create an image of Douglas which produced this image. This image reflects one of the major faults with image generation currently as it is more so a mashup of photos of Douglas rather than a photo which represents his appearance accurately in comparison to photos.
I then asked co pilot to transcribe this page
Co pilot got most of the information correct with minor misspellings of names such as McClinton instead of McQuillton. I think that AI is an inevitability within the research field and that although I personally object to its use, it does have slight merit with with transcribing texts with its ability to do so only improving the longer it grows.
